Who is eligible to enter?

Africa Day Tech Competition is open to all product or service submissions based on a new
technology or an innovative application of an existing technology built by the submitting
company that has potential address one of Africa Day Tech for Good categories.

Applicants must be legally incorporated – or registered – in an eligible country. The proposed business cannot be in violation of any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trade secrets. See the Official Rules for more details.
Africa Day Tech does not have any restrictions on current revenue level or capital raised to
date.

All non-public information in submissions will be kept confidential and will only be shared in
compliance with Africa Day Tech’s privacy policy.

How competitors are evaluated?

ATD competitors will be evaluated by a team of highly experienced investors, entrepreneurs, and executives. Submissions will be judged based on their quality, ability to address the corresponding U.N. Sustainability Development Goals, and long-term viability. Each application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Team
Product/Service Innovation
Product Market Fit
Tech for Humanity and Impact on the sustainable Development Goals of both the product and the company’s operations

Evaluated Criteria

Startups will be judged on each of the following 4 criteria which will be scored from 1 (low) to 10
(high):

TEAM: Team’s credential and experience
Is the team uniquely qualified to build this startup?
Do they strongly understand their customers and their industry?
Do they have the determination and endurance to carry this through to completion?

PRODUCT/SERVICE INNOVATION: The level of innovation of the product or service

Is this a disruptive innovation that creates a new market and/or a new value- ecosystem that displaces or radically modernizes an existing industry?
Is it differentiated from competitive or substitute offerings?

PRODUCT MARKET FIT: Proof of commercial scalability and market size to support growth and profitability

Are targeted customers using/buying its product/service?
Can the startup show their product/service will scale enough in the addressable market for sufficient growth/profit to be an attractive investment?

TECH FOR HUMANITY: The degree and reach of impact on human and planetary health

Is this innovative product/service addressing a significant global challenge to society
and/or the environment?
Can this startup’s product/service have a wide-reaching impact on same?

Finalist

The Finalist Cohort will be invited to the virtual TWS Bootcamp and Global Finals in June to meet the VC and corporate executive evaluators, including ~50+ TWS Partners. Selected Finalists will also pitch to ATD judges at the Category Finals, who will select the winner of each Category and the winner of each Special Award.
